Revolting Women
The Space, E14 3RS , [Venue Details]This June, explore the music of North and South America. Poets like Emily Dickinson and Ofelia Sussel-Marie, both of whom were women working as creatives in a world completely dominated by men.
Dickinson’s work was championed & celebrated by Aaron Copland, catapulting her into the mainstream. However, Sussel-Marie’s beautiful poetry was put to music by the brilliant Irma Urteaga, a female composer in a similar situation to her own, taking longer for the world to appreciate their artistry.
Matilda Dawes is a young local soprano and choral conductor. Since graduating with a first from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, Matilda has founded the Verdier Trio – for voice, flute, and piano, and Cantwara – a harp & voice duo. Both have recently performed at festivals & churches in Kent and will be giving their first London performances later on in this concert series at the Space.
Felix Ottaway O’Mahony is studying for an undergraduate degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire with Elena Riu as his teacher. Felix has performed in masterclasses with renowned artists including Dr Min Kwon, Pascal Roge, Enrico Elisi, Andrew West, Lei Weng, Niklas Pokki, Christine Croshaw & Susan Chan.
He has performed in a variety of venues across the United Kingdom, including Wigmore Hall, The Barbican, Lucy Sanderson Hall, Blackheath Halls, Waltham Abbey, and The Old Royal Naval College Chapel.
